Restoring Through Urban Nature Experience (ReTUNE) is a mobile application designed to give users the most restorative walking route to their destination, accounting for greenery, local noise, and crime. Coverage currently includes Hyde Park and parts of Woodlawn, Kenwood, and Washington Park.
Research has shown that acute exposures to nature can increase mood and cognitive abilities. By maximizing exposure to natural elements while commuting or completing errands, urban dwellers may receive some of these benefits.
ReTUNE was built by Kathryn Schertz and Dr. Marc Berman in the Environmental Neuroscience Lab (ENL) through the University of Chicago App Challenge, which is sponsored by the Polsky Center and IT Services. For general information about ENL, please see our website: enl.uchicago.edu.
This application is still in development and we welcome your feedback. Please feel free to contact us about issues or suggestions at retune.uchicago@gmail.com
